A message from the President
Welcome back to the 2016 school year. I hope everyone enjoyed a well-deserved break, but I know that so many of you will have been busy preparing teaching materials and getting ready for the first year of the new ATAR Exams. BEWA Exams for ATAR courses will be available for purchase by members as outlined elsewhere in this Newsletter

It was wonderful to see so many members at the 2015 BEWA Conference at UWA on 4 December and thank you all for the positive feedback. At the conference Dell Trainer was thanked once again for her on-going support as she relinquishes more of the BEWA Administration and increases the time she has to enjoy her retirement in her beautiful new retirement villa. In 2016 Dell will continue to keep the BEWA books but will not be available for other administrative work. I would like to extend a big thank-you to BEWA Secretary, Victoria Lacey, for taking up this mantle. For the first time the Dell Trainer Award for the BEWA Teacher of the Year was presented at the conference, a practice which will now be ongoing. Also at the conference interest was gauged for a 2016 conference with a difference and members strongly voiced their support of investigating this, as outlined elsewhere in this Newsletter.

As all BEWA communication is now done via email, can I please remind everyone to clear their mailboxes from time to time to ensure that you receive all your emails, including those from BEWA. In the past, Dell would telephone your school and leave a message for you if she noticed that your mailbox was full. With your committee all working full time, this is a service we cannot continue to provide.

I would also ask that you please consider contributing a resource for the Members’ Only section of the BEWA website, information about which appears later in this Newsletter.

I hope to see many of you at the 2016 BEWA Annual General Meeting at The Royal on the Waterfront, 60 Royal Street, East Perth, at 5:00pm Wednesday 17 February (RSVP is essential to ascertain whether or not a quorum is expected, and if not, reschedule the AGM).

Congratulations to John Cannon – 2015 BEWA Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to John Cannon from Canning College, who was awarded the Dell Trainer Award for the 2016 BEWA Teacher of the Year at the BEWA Conference on 4 December 2015. John is a very worthy recipient, having contributed in many areas of business education in schools and TAFE colleges and is a co-author of the Accounting and Finance textbook many of you use in your classrooms.

2016 BEWA Annual General Meeting
The 2016 BEWA AGM will be held at 5:00pm on Wednesday 17 February at The Royal on the Waterfront, 60 Royal Street, East Perth. Refreshments will be served prior to the AGM at 4:30pm. The agenda, nomination forms and proxy forms are attached to the email you receive with this Newsletter. It is essential that you RSVP by Monday 15 February.

2016 BEWA Conference
A three night cruise is in the planning stage for the 2016 BEWA Conference. Depending on the pricing, the conference will be held on board MS Astor, cruising from Fremantle at 6:00pm Friday 9 December 2015, sailing to Geograph Bay where it will remain at anchor, then return to berth at Fremantle at 7:00am on Monday 12 December. Negotiations are currently under way between BEWA, a travel agency and the ship’s agents, and we hope to have details re costing as soon as possible. BEWA members may wish to travel with family members or partners (who would also sail at the discounted price). BEWA members and their families/partners would pay only for the sailing (through the nominated travel agent) without any additional payments for the conference sessions. In addition, BEWA members would receive gifts as well as their conference satchel. A short welcome reception would take place on the Friday evening, with optional conference sessions on Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. The price of the cruise includes breakfasts, morning teas, lunches, afternoon teas and dinners throughout the cruise. Drinks would be the only additional out-of-pocket expenses (as well as optional spa treatments, specialty restaurant dining, on-board shopping, casino).

2016 BEA Biennial Conference in Hobart
This is a reminder that Hobart will be hosting the BEA Biennial Conference on Thursday 29 and Friday 30 September 2016. There are as yet no other details regarding this conference as the call for papers does not close until next week. As Saturday 1 October is the date of the AFL Grand Final in Melbourne this reminder is to warn you that flights around this time of the year are going to be busy.

2016 CPA Plan Your Own Enterprise Competition
The CPA Plan Your Own Enterprise Competition is on again this year and, as details become available, we will keep you informed. Last year a WA student won the national competition and was awarded a prize of $2,000 as well as receiving prizes for his school. This makes students from WA winners three times in five years! We must be doing something right in WA so please encourage your students to enter!
